Students who successfully complete this course will be able to:
1.  Have knowledge of basic rules of work construction and vocabulary of the body systems.
2.  Read and understand medical documentation in medical records and medical reports.
3.  Communicate with health care professionals utilizing proper medical terminology.

Students will demonstrate these learning outcomes by these tasks conducted individually and in cooperation with other students.
1.  Answer theoretical and application multiple choice questions on information covered in the lecture and reading assignments.
2.  Complete a variety of work assignments to demonstrate understanding of basic concepts.

1.0  General Concepts of Medical Terminology
The goal is to understand a given medical term, give its definition by breaking it into component parts, and identify the body system to which it relates. Students must also understand body structure.

2.0  Musculoskeletal System
Understand the basic anatomical structures, terminology, and functions of the musculoskeletal system, know basic diseases and pathological conditions commonly encountered in this system.

3.0  Circulatory System
Understand the basic content of the circulation of blood through the body, the functions, and basic pathological disorders of blood itself and of the circulatory system.

4.0  Respiratory System
Understand the basic anatomical structures terminology, and functions of the respiratory system. Know the basic diseases and pathological conditions commonly encountered in this system.

5.0  Urogenital and Male Reproductive Systems
Understand the basic anatomical structures, terminology, and functions of the genitourinary system. Know the basic diseases and pathological conditions commonly encountered in this system.

6.0  Female Reproductive System
Understand the basic anatomical structures, terminology, and functions of the female reproductive system. Know the basic diseases and pathological conditions commonly encountered in this system.

7.0  Digestive System
Understand the basic anatomical structures, terminology, and functions of the digestive system. Know the basic diseases and pathological processes commonly encountered in this system.

8.0  Endocrine System
Understand the basic anatomical structure, terminology, and functions of the endocrine system. Know the basic diseases and pathological processes commonly encountered in this system.

9.0  Nervous System
Understand the basic anatomical structure, terminology, and functions of the nervous system. Know the basic diseases and pathological processes commonly encountered in this system.

10.0  Sensory System
Understand the basic anatomical structure, terminology, and functions of the sensory system. Know the basic diseases and pathological processes commonly encountered in this system.

11.0  Skin
Understand the basic anatomical structure, terminology, and functions of the integumentary system. Know the basic diseases and pathological processes commonly encountered in this system.

12.0 Oncology

Understand the the causes of cancer, basic characteristics of neoplasm, cancer treatments, and oncology terminology.

13.0 Psychiatry

Understand the categories of mental disorders, psychiatric disorders, diagnostic procedures and treatments for common mental disorders, and the word components of psychiatric terminology.

14.0 Radiology and Nuclear Medicine

Understand the medical word components for radiology and nuclear medicine. Know diagnostic imaging procedures and nuclear medicine imaging studies.

15.0 Immunology

Understand the basic structure and function of the lymphatic and immune systems. Know the medical word components for immunology and the diagnostic procedures and medical and surgical procedures.
