Course Description

This workshop looks at three typical types of human behavior and focus on assertiveness. Particular attention given to creating appropriate situations for assertive behavior to occur and opportunities for skill practice also provided. Audit available.

Addendum to Course Description

Examines the impact of assertive, aggressive, and non-assertive behaviors on workplace results. Includes assessing communication rights and responsibilities, minimizing defensive reactions, shifting to assertive behavior, and adapting communication style to promote effective communication.

 

Intended Outcomes for the course

  • Communicate effectively with assertive, aggressive, and non-assertive individuals in the workplace.
  • Promote effective communication and minimize defensive reactions by using assertive behaviors.

Outcome Assessment Strategies

  • Various individual and/or group skill-building activities such as role-plays, case studies, or other exercises geared toward critical analysis of course concepts.
  • Written assignments or oral reports designed to integrate course material into personal experience or experiences of others.
     
  • Exams comprised of essay and/or objective questions, or an individual and/or team project or paper which requires integration, application, and critical examination of course concepts, issues, and themes.
