Course Description

Introduces industry tools (laser cutters, CNC mills, 3D printers, saws, and drills) and processes for rapid prototyping of enclosures for digital objects. Provides basic exposure to design principles. Audit available.

Intended Outcomes for the course

Upon completion of the course students should be able to:

  1. Safely, properly, and effectively operate a variety of industry tools, such as drills, saws, laser cutters, CNC mills, and 3D printers.
  2. Produce virtual objects in industry-relevant software for material production.
  3. Enumerate basic design principles.
  4. Design and produce a physical enclosure.
