Course Description
Instructs prospective music-related business owners, such as bands or private teachers, how to initiate, organize and operate a successful small business. Included are promotion, marketing, and record-keeping. Audit available.
Intended Outcomes for the course
- Material will be presented in a lecture/discussion format. Visual presentations and handouts will facilitate the student's basic understanding of subject material.
- Students will learn to apply principles of time management.
- Students will be able to assess their marketable skills.
- Students will set short and long-term goals.
- Students will be able to put together a marketing concept.
- Students will be able to construct a music industry tree.
- Students will be able to define independent vrs. Major record labels.
- Students will be able to take steps to secure copyright protection for original works.
- Students will be able to organize business and tax records.
- Students will be able to develop a press kit.
Students will be able to pursue booking engagements or market services.
Students will learn how to generate publicity.
