Course Description
Intended Outcomes for the course
- Demonstrate an appreciation of the richness and diversity of influences found in the music of Latin America
- Demonstrate a deeper understanding of Latin American culture through music
- Identify common traits such as rhythmic devices, text and harmonic patterns found in the different music of Latin America
- Identify the influence of Latin American musical elements in the music of the dominant culture
Integrative Learning
Students completing an associate degree at Portland Community College will be able to reflect on one’s work or competencies to make connections between course content and lived experience.
Course Activities and Design
Historical and regional survey of the music of Latin America covering the areas of Mexico and Central America, the Caribbean, the Andes and Peru, Colombia and Venezuela, Brazil, and the Southern Cone.
