Course Description

Introduces basic running performance fundamentals that help maintain and enhance physical fitness and overall well-being. Provides foundational information and tools needed to understand, organize, plan, and implement a physical fitness program that features running as a primary cardiorespiratory activity. Audit available.

Addendum to Course Description

Each student supplies his/her own clothing. Clothing should be loose and comfortable fitting for exercise. Shoes are mandatory and should be designed for running.

Intended Outcomes for the course

Upon completion of the course students should be able to:

  1. Apply the components of an effective physical fitness program, utilizing running as the primary activity. 
  2. Develop realistic fitness goals and design a running program to meet these goals.
  3. Perform a variety of fitness running mechanics and techniques for safe and effective running for fitness.
  4. Recognize the fitness benefits of running as a lifelong sport.

Course Activities and Design

Improve running efficiency through drills, as well as strength and flexibility exercises. 

Runs progress in both intensity & duration/distance throughout the term.
