Course Description

Emphasizes continued development of skills necessary to participate in basketball at an advanced level through game play and drills. Recommended: PE 185B. Audit available.

Addendum to Course Description

Each student supplies their own clothing. Clothing should be loose and comfortable fitting for exercise. Shoes are mandatory and should be designed for basketball.

Intended Outcomes for the course

Upon completion of the course the students should be able to:

  1. Demonstrate advanced basketball skills.
  2. Demonstrate officiating skills.

SUBJECT MATTER: CONCEPTS, THEMES, ISSUES (TOPICAL AREAS)
 

  1. Principles of offense and defense
  2. Strategy of the game
  3. Knowledge of rules by officiating


COMPETENCIES/SKILLS:

  1. Explain basketball officiating technique
  2. Perform warm up and cool down
  3. Practice basic fundamentals of play
  4. Participate in team play
  5. Demonstrate use of game strategy for team play
