Course Description
Addendum to Course Description
Students in this course will research outdoor health, wellness, and/or recreational activities; as a group, students will select an outdoor activity in which to plan, implement, and evaluate. The planned lab activity may involve overnight camping.
Intended Outcomes for the course
Upon completion of this course the student should be able to:
- Design and implement an outdoor activity, program, or event by applying leadership, planning, and management skills.
- Apply effective teaching and motivational strategies when leading activities in outdoor environments.
- Explore current trends and employment opportunities in outdoor leadership.
Course Activities and Design
The lecture portion of the course explores industry trends, leadership techniques, activity planning, development of logistics methods, and group presentations. A required in person off-campus lab activity will take place toward the end of the term to implement the planned outdoor activity. The planned outdoor lab activity may involve overnight camping.
Instructional strategies include lectures, classroom activities, online or electronic activities/discussions/assignments, small group work, group discussions, skills practice, and group activities.
