Course Description

Introduces the normal appearance of anatomical structures in multiple planes. Enables student to differentiate between normal anatomical structures and abnormalities. Designed for graduate technologists or senior radiography students. ARRT certification or department permission required.

Addendum to Course Description


This course is designed for radiographers in all stages of their career: whether still in school, training for a new field, or furthering one's knowledge. This class offers both 1 hour of college credit and/or 12 hours of continuing education. It can be taken for a grade, as pass/no pass or as an audit. The student's grade for the course will be based on the final exam results given throughout the class. The student must earn above a 50% on the final exam for a pass mark. These both will earn Category A continuing education credits. With an audit, the student will receive Category B continuing education credits.

Intended Outcomes for the course


Differentiate between normal and abnormal sectional anatomy of the neck, thorax, and upper extremities on medical images.

Course Content (Themes, Concepts, Issues and Skills)

Neck:
1. Identify the structures of the neck and their anatomic relationships.
2. Describe the course of the major vessels in the neck.
Thorax:
1. Identify bony parts of the thorax.
2. Identify the soft tissue components of the lungs.
3. Differentiate between the two pleural cavities.
4. Describe the course of the bronchi.
5. Identify the structures of the mediastinum and azygos venous system.
6. Differentiate the major muscles of the thorax.
7. Differentiate between the three layers of the breast.
Upper Extremity Joints:
Shoulder:
1. Identify the bony anatomy of the shoulder.
2. Distinguish the musculature and tendons of the shoulder.
3. Differentiate the cartilage and ligaments of the shoulder.
4. Describe the shoulder bursa.
Elbow:
1. Identify the bony anatomy of the elbow.
2. Differentiate the ligaments, muscles and tendons of the elbow.
3. Distinguish the neurovasculature of the arm.
Wrist:
1. Identify the bony anatomy of the wrist
2. Describe the carpal tunnel of the wrist.
3. Distinguish the tendons, ligaments and cartilage complex of the wrist.
