Upon successful completion students should be able to:

1. Handle a wider range of communicative tasks in selected social situations.
2. Communicate more effectively with some rephrasing and circumlocution with native speakers accustomed to dealing with non-native speakers.
3. Further apply discourse to narrate and describe in more detail and length using a variety of time frames and all six cases with greater accuracy.
4. Expand understanding of cultural similarities and differences within the Russian-speaking world in relation to one’s own cultural perspective.
5. Deepen understanding of historical and cultural movements through analysis of selected words of art, literature, music, film and/or performing arts.
6. Analyze and develop responses to selected authentic materials in the target language.

1. Manages more detailed interactions and discussions about physical appearance and personality, daily routines, past and future activities, holidays, giving gifts, historical events, and major milestones in life
2. Speaks in the present and past tenses with a high degree of accuracy
3. Speaks in the future tense with increasing accuracy
4. Speaks using the six cases with increasing accuracy
5. Communicates more effectively with circumlocution and some rephrasing with a native speaker accustomed to non-native speakers.
6. Comprehends normal rate native speech in a highly contextual setting.
7. Writes longer paragraphs or multiple paragraphs on a variety of topics using present, past and future tenses and the six cases with greater accuracy
8. Reads and understands the main ideas and details of selected authentic texts including Russian folk tales, children’s literature, short stories
9. Uses contextual and linguistic clues to consistently deduce the meaning of new vocabulary
10. Analyzes and writes short written responses to authentic materials including works of art, literature, music, film and/or performing arts.
11. Recognizes and interprets cultural similarities and differences about clothing and personal hygiene, body language, daily schedules, holiday traditions, wedding traditions, and gift giving practices in relation to one’s own cultural perspective
