Course Description

Introduces basic terminology, concepts, and principles of analog and digital animation. Explores the complexities surrounding animation. Covers the historical evolution of animation, how the ideology of animation informs one’s practice, process and the art of narrative. Prerequisites: ART 277A, ART 293A, ART 237A. Audit available.

Intended Outcomes for the course

Upon successful completion of the course students should be able to:

  1. Identify the important historical events and discuss the technical developments in animation.
  2. Utilize essential animation-specific vocabulary for analyzing techniques, practices, and trends within the field of animation.
  3. Create content using software geared towards animation.
  4. Manage animation workflow processes.

To cultivate an appreciation for the practice of Animation alongside teaching students how to maintain a healthy workflow practice.
