Course Description
Covers more advanced forms of cabinet construction and joinery such as doweling, box joints, dovetail joints and lock shoulders. Machining and assembly of the five piece door will be covered. An instructor designed cabinet project will supply the frame work for learning experience. Prerequisites: BCT 216 or BCT 219. Audit available.
Addendum to Course Description
Learners will become familiar with the skills, materials, hardware, and equipment necessary to produce industry standard cabinets. Students will learn and demonstrate the safe use of cabinetmaking hand and power tools. Students will machine and assemble a faculty-designed cabinet complete with drawer, five- piece door, and dovetail joinery.
Intended Outcomes for the course
To construct industry standard cabinets by formulating and interpreting cabinet shop drawings. To recognize and select appropriate materials and hardware for intended cabinet projects. To safely and appropriately use stationary and portable power tools and hand tools for cabinet machining, assembly, and finishing.
Outcome Assessment Strategies
- Learners will demonstrate the safe operation of hand and power tools used in cabinet construction.
- Learners will construct a cabinet meeting Architectural Woodworking Institute "premium" standard.
- Learners will assemble a bill of materials and cut list for
- their cabinet project.
- Learners will sketch and dimension shop drawings of
- their cabinet project.

- Read and interpret shop drawings to determine construction methods, material types and hardware
- Sketch shop drawings
