Course Description

Introduces modern investigative methods, including the collection and preservation of physical evidence, scientific aids, sources of information, interviews, follow-up and case presentation. Includes techniques of interview and interrogation. Prerequisites: CJA 111; WR 121. Audit available.

Intended Outcomes for the course

Identify, assess, collect and process evidence at a crime scene in a manner that preserves and documents chain of custody

Prepare documents such as crime scene sketches and reports in a manner that will withstand courtroom scrutiny

Outcome Assessment Strategies

At the beginning of the course, the instructor will detail the methods used to assess student performance and progress, as well as the criteria for the student's final grade.  Methods of assessment will include the following: examination, quizzes, an interview assignment report, research papers, class participation, oral presentations and demonstrations of interviewing and counseling skills.
