Course Description

Covers intermediate concepts of the clinical aspect of dental assisting duties and responsibilities. Introduces dental specialties and the dental assistant's role in the areas of periodontics, endodontics, oral surgery, prosthodontics, implants, and temporomandibular disorder (TMD). Prerequisites: DA 110, and acceptance in the Dental Assisting program. Corequisites: DA 113.

Intended Outcomes for the course

Upon successful completion of the course students should be able to:

  1. Identify the various dental specialties recognized by the American Dental Association.
  2. Examine the various roles of auxiliary personnel as they relate to various dental specialties, therapies, and treatments.
  3. Recognize the procedural steps, armamentarium, instrumentation, and post-operative instructions for various dental specialties, therapies, and treatments.
