Course Description

Covers intermediate concepts of dental materials, including various dental specialties, soft denture relines, suture removal, endodontic materials, and periodontal dressings. Includes materials, process, and construction of fixed and removable prosthesis. Prerequisites: Acceptance in the Dental Assisting Program, and DA 130. Corequisites: DA 133.

Intended Outcomes for the course

Upon successful completion of the course students should be able to:

  1. Identify the properties, applications, indications, and contraindications of dental materials used in prosthodontics and various dental specialties.

  2. Recognize the uses and contraindications of dental materials used in Expanded Function Dental Assisting (EFDA) duties.

  • Describe the fabrication of temporary crowns
  • Describe the steps in placement of a denture soft liner

Upon completion students will be able to:

  1. Identify the properties, applications, indications, and contraindications of dental materials used in prosthodontics and various dental specialties.

  2. Describe the uses and contraindications of dental materials used in Expanded Function Dental Assisting (EFDA) duties.

Activities: Students work in groups to research new technology and present information in both oral and written form.

Research dental materials used at OHSU - students create a written narrative and an oral presentation of their findings.
