Course Description

Covers oral and written communication, resume creation, job interview readiness along with job search techniques related to dentistry. Prerequisites: Acceptance in the Dental Assisting program.

Intended Outcomes for the course

Upon successful completion of the course students should be able to:

  1. Produce a cover letter, resume and thank you letter.

  2. Demonstrate interviewing techniques for individual and committee interviews.

  3. Demonstrate interviewing techniques with identified industry partners.

  • Describe and discuss the purpose and advantages of supply inventory and patient recall systems management in dental office settings.
  • Apply communications skills and knowledge of office management in the cooperative education setting; and obtain interviewing skills to be able to successfully interview as a dental assistant.

  • Direct instruction in and an associated assignment in designing a dental office to include floor plan measurement and layout as well as researching equipment purchasing costs and installation.
  • Utilizing a variety of dental office software, complete dental office scheduling activities.

  • Develop and write a portfolio project to include, a cover letter, resume, thank you letter interview questions using word processing and a mock Job Interview
  • Guest speaker from the PCC Student Employment Office, exploring job search, developing and practicing interview skills, developing a  resume - follow up from winter term

Human Relations
