Course Description
Explores the legal and ethical dimensions of the dental profession, and professional standards and responsibilities as established by dental professions. Discusses legal framework governing dental practice, including laws and regulations specific to patient privacy, informed consent, record-keeping, and professional liability. Examines ethical principles and codes of conduct, fostering ethical decision-making and promoting professionalism in patient care. Prerequisites: Acceptance into the Dental Assisting program.
Intended Outcomes for the course
Upon successful completion of the course students should be able to:
- Identify and discuss key laws and regulations governing dental practice, including those related to patient privacy, informed consent, recordkeeping, and professional liability.
- Recognize and respond to ethical situations commonly encountered in the dental practice and select the most appropriate ethical course of action based on established principles and codes of conduct.
