Course Description
Provides HVAC service technician with the proper methods of diagnosing malfunctions in Honeywell control systems. Also covers thermostat/controllers of Robert Shaw, Johnson, Honeywell, and Barber Coleman. Includes elements of pneumatic systems, valve assemblies, dampers, controllers, thermostats, sensors, relays and air supply equipment. Audit available.
Intended Outcomes for the course
- Explain the basic theories and principles of heating and cooling as a basis for understanding and operating pneumatic controls.
- Explain the function of the compressor and associated controls required for the basic pneumatic system to function.
- Explain the purpose of pneumatic operators for the positioning of various valves and dampers.
- Explain the function of the controllers in the positioning of a controlled device.
- Illustrate the structure and function of a variety of thermostats and demonstrate ability to adjust selected models.
- Explain the principles of pneumatic sensor controller systems and demonstrate ability to calculate temperature/pressure changes.
Course Activities and Design
Activities will include lecture, discussion, and laboratory exercises.
Outcome Assessment Strategies
Evaluation will be based on the following: reading assignments, homework, laboratory activities and assignments, short quizzes, written examination, and attendance.
Evaluation procedure will be discussed at the first class session and the instructor's grading policy will be handed out with other class information.
