Course Description
Presents an analysis of interior design and furnishings from the 19th century to the present. Includes contemporary usage as well as the mixing of period furniture styles. Prerequisites: WR 115, RD 115 and MTH 20 or equivalent placement test scores.
Intended Outcomes for the course
Upon completion of the course students should be able to:
- Identify historic furniture and interior styles from the 19th, 20th and 21st centuries.
- Inform others about historic interiors using research and presentation skills.
Outcome Assessment Strategies
- Compile a study notebook illustrating historic interiors and furniture styles of Western Civilizations. Use professional vocabulary to label illustrations.
- Demonstrate ability to recognize and analyze historic interiors and furniture by taking two exams.
- Present a written and oral report of the design work of an influential interior/furniture designer.
- Participate/ contribute to class discussions
