Course Description

Introduces multi-cam live event recording and post work for music venues. Includes multi-cam recording, recording audio and working with mixers and microphones. Develops narrative production skills for creating a music video; including scripting, story-boarding, shooting, lighting, and post-production. Prerequisites: MM 261 or MM 263 or instructor approval, and (WR 115 and RD 115) or IRW 115 and MTH 20 or equivalent placement. Audit available.

Intended Outcomes for the course

Upon successful completion of the course students should be able to:

  • Demonstrate proficiency in multi-cam recording, working as a member of a crew, camera skills, audio recording skills, and syncing. 
  • Prepare scripts for multiple music video formats.
  • Apply industry specific production skills including, camera work, studio work, lighting, recording and editing.
  • Prepare and present release materials, copyright, and expected deliverables.

Course Activities and Design

Materials will be presented via lectures, demonstrations, and reading assignments.  Students will learn and demonstrate their abilities through hands-on assignments and participation on video production crews. Guest speakers and field trips to media production facilities or other industry related events will provide students with a broader understanding of the video industry. 

Outcome Assessment Strategies

Student fulfillment of expected outcomes will be assessed using:  video and audio assignments; written quizzes; written assignments; practical exams in which the student demonstrates hands-on skills and abilities; observation by production staff  

Course Content (Themes, Concepts, Issues and Skills)

Music video production, project design, pre-production visualization concepts, and planning, creating contracts, Narrative production skills, art department (sets, wardrobe, special fx) 

Live event recording, Multicam recording for music venues, working with clients, collaborating with a team, crew roles, live multi-camera recording  

Post production skills, muliti-cam post-production 

Camera work (live and narrative style), Directing live event team, live venue audio recording basics.
