Course Description

Produce collaborative group animation projects utilizing industry-standard methods and pipelines. Stop motion, 2D, 3D, compositing, motion graphics, and visual effects will be discussed. Explore and analyze industry roles and responsibilities. Recommended: MM 215. Audit available. Prerequisites: MM 235, MM 230, and MM 232.

Intended Outcomes for the course

Upon successful completion of the course students should be able to:

1. Use multiple animation and motion methods, such as 2D, 3D, stop motion, compositing, motion graphics, and visual effects in collaborative projects.

2. Identify and navigate the roles and responsibilities of project managers, directors, collaborators, and contributors to animation and motion graphics projects.

3. Plan and create animated characters for use in group projects.

4. Contribute to projects using industry-standard pipelines and workflows.

Course Activities and Design

Course material will be presented in a lecture format, and then explored in a lab format. This course is designed to maximize learning through the use of outcome-based instruction strategies, collaborative learning, contextual application, and performance-based assessment.

Outcome Assessment Strategies

Assessment will be based upon a combination of in-class work, reflections, examinations, and skills demonstrated in assigned projects. Determination of problem-solving skills, and communication skills may also be included.
