Course Description

Focuses on improvements in cardiorespiratory and muscular fitness using interval training. Involves a series of low- to high-intensity workouts interspersed with rest/recovery periods. Includes the use of weights and a wide variety of functional fitness training equipment. Audit available.

Addendum to Course Description

Students will learn & experience both a warm up and cool down in each training session.

Fitness assessments may be offered as a part of this class.

Monitoring intensity levels is key in interval training and students will learn and utilize heart rate, rate of perceived exertion and/or the talk test.

Intended Outcomes for the course

Upon completion of the course students should be able to:

  • Increase levels of physical fitness through continued participation in interval training.
  • Perform safe and effective warm ups and cool downs specific to interval training when exercising.
  • Apply proper technique for safe and effective participation in interval training.

  • SAQ Training
  • Plyometric Training
  • Timing of intervals & relation to intensity level of activity/exercise
  • Functional Fitness Training

  • Both Aerobic & Anaerobic Fitness Training
  • Develop interval or circuit fitness training sessions for personal use
