Course Description

Practice skills from TA 141 and TA 142. Stresses further inquiry and use of knowledge and skills in performance. Includes audition techniques. Prerequisites: TA 141 and its prerequisite requirements. Audit available.

Intended Outcomes for the course

The student will: 

  • Choose and perform character role from dramatic literature and prepare it for performance with a partner
  • Perform scenes for the class as required by the course
  • Attend a live performance and critique it
  • Demonstrate understanding of the preparation of a role

Assessment may include:

  1. Scene performance and critique
  2. Character biography
  3. In-class activities
  4. Quizzes over text
  5. Play critique
  6. Short assignment performances

1.0  STYLIZED ACTING SCENES

1.1  Locate classical scene (over 100 years old) 

1.2  Use appropriate movement and diction 

1.3  Interpret/critique classical character

2.0  SCRIPT/CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT

2.1  Memorize assigned/chosen scenes  

2.2  Develop blocking for scenes  

2.3  Rehearse with partner in preparation for performance  

2.4  Practice cold reading techniques   

3.0  PERFORMANCES  

3.1  Portray a developed character  

3.2  Use the voice with projection and articulation  

3.3  Display blocking choices consistent with the script  

3.4  Demonstrate the partnership aspects of a scene (give-and-take)

4.0  PHYSICAL AND VOCAL WORK
