Course Description

Provides an opportunity to co-design a specific role an independent project associated with a main stage theatre production. Learning contract with theatre arts instructor covering the course expectations required. Audit available.

Addendum to Course Description

Projects in Theatre is designed to allow the student to do a comprehensive, self-directed project of some aspect of technical

theatre. The student will be required to develop his/her own contract with an assigned theater instructor. The contract will be assessed on a totally individualized basis allowing for maximum flexibility in the type of study done. This course may also be used for off-campus theater activities, including internships with none PCC theatre companies. This course carries 3 credits, based on successful completion of 90 hours (or the equivalent) time working on the study/project. Hours are compiled throughout the term with final tally due by 5pm on Tuesday of finals week.

Intended Outcomes for the course

Upon completion of the course students should be able to:

  • Implement and execute a written plan of action.
  • Produce a project schedule and timeline.
  • Determine project deadlines.
  • Record and update production data such as schedules, locations, goals from production meetings using an online platform.

Course Activities and Design

This course will be independent self-directed in nature. Regular weekly student-instructor advising sessions will occur throughout the term.

The forms of assessment will be determined by the individual instructor

Assessment strategies will include at least THREE of the following:

I Weekly student-instructor one-on-one conferences as necessary to evaluate progress of assigned project.

II Accrual of assigned shop project hours.

III Post-production evaluation between student and instructor.

IV Self-assessment of project by student.

V Fulfillment of contracted duties.

Prerequisite Knowledge and Skills:

I Prior participation in one or more PCC theatre classes strongly suggested.

II Oral and written command of college level English is suggested.
