3 lab, 3 lec, 4 cr
Second term of a sequence designed to prepare students for an entry-level position as a system administrator of a network utilizing the Linux network operating system. Focuses on knowledge and skills necessary to maintain system security and to install, configure and maintain common network applications.

53. PE 180B INTERMEDIATE SWIMMING – COURSE TITLE CHANGE, COURSE REVISION
3 lab, 1 cr
Continues the development of the student’s swimming and water safety skills. New strokes introduced include the breaststroke, sidestroke, and elementary backstroke. Deepwater skills are also developed. Prerequisite: PE 180A or instructor permission.
Formerly: Advanced Beginning Swim
Course Description: Introduces proper stroke form, efficiency and endurance in freestyle, backstroke and elementary backstroke. Covers basic diving techniques. Recommended: beginning swim course or ability to swim 10 yards.

Provides the necessary knowledge to create real-world web applications using server-side technologies, including ASP.NET, VB.NET, and database access with ADO.NET. Although the primary focus is on the concepts, a business web-site is developed utilizing the presented material.

58. GD 110 GRAPHIC DESIGN SURVEY FOR TECHNICAL WRITERS – NEW COURSE

Introduces graphic design principles and methods used in composition. Includes an understanding of typography, structure, and communication strategies through lectures, readings, and hands-on projects. Formerly: GD 199A (to be inactivated)

RECOMMENDED with title change to Graphic Design Survey for Technical Communication and to include “Recommended: placement into WR 121” in the course description.
Discussion: This course is specific to Professional Technical Writers but is open to other disciplines such as Multimedia.
COMMITTEE DISCUSSION:
- There was discussion regarding the necessity of program or course changes in one program that could possibly have a direct impact on another department be discussed by ALL department SACs so that appropriate sections for courses involved can be projected and scheduled.
- The committee discussed the need to encourage departments to be clear and definite about prerequisite and recommended courses in the text of course descriptions. It is much easier for advisors and counselors to assist students with classes when the prerequisites are clearly listed in a course description. The difference between a specific prerequisite and less specific recommendation of a course(s) could possibly affect the success of a student in that class.
