Support was given by a Biology SAC member that the prerequisites, as listed, meet the needs of the course.

8. MUS 111 MUSIC THEORY I (part one) – COURSE DESCRIPTION CHANGE
Proposed: Part one of three-term sequence. Covers music theory as exhibited in the works of the great composers of the 17th and 18th centuries. Includes notation, pitch, meter, tonality, modality, harmony and diatonic function. Basic music analysis focusing on harmonic function and figured bass notation. Includes written composition. Meets arts and humanities sequence requirement for Associate of Arts Oregon Transfer degree. Prerequisite: MUS 110; Corequisite: MUS 111C (required for music majors).
Current: Covers basic structure of music (tonality, modality, melody, harmony, rhythm, modulation and phrase structure) as it is exhibited through diatonic harmony. Meets arts and humanities sequence requirement for Associate of Arts Oregon Transfer degree. Prerequisite: MUS 110.

9. MUS 111C MUSIC THEORY I: SIGHT SINGING AND EAR TRAINING (part one) – COURSE DESCRIPTION CHANGE
Proposed: part one of three-term sequence. Focuses on the development of skills related to the notation, performance, and aural recognition of music. Includes meter, rhythm, diatonic melodies, triads, solfeggio, intervals, and harmonic function. Corequisite: MUS 111
Current: Develops musical skills emphasizing sight and sound of melodic and rhythmic patterns and musical intervals. Demonstrates musical recognition by singing and/or tapping the musical symbols presented for performance. Introduces melodic, rhythmic and harmonic dictation. Corequisite: MUS 111.

Includes figured bass realization, harmonic analysis and written composition. Meets arts and humanities sequence requirement for Associate of Arts Oregon Transfer degree. Prerequisite: MUS 111. Corequisite: MUS 112C (required for music majors)

Proposed: Part two of three-term sequence. Continues the development of skills from MUS 111C. Includes harmonic implications in chromaticism, extended harmony and phrase relationships. Prerequisite: MUS 111C. Corequisite: MUS 112A.
Current: Continues development of skills learned in MUS 111C. Develops musical skills emphasizing sight and sound of rhythmic patterns, melodic and harmonic intervals. 12. PT 138 ELECTRONIC LAYOUT – INDESIGN – NEW COURSE
2 lec, 3 lab, 3 cr
Covers beginning and intermediate image editing and page layout procedures using Adobe InDesign software on Macintosh computers. Prerequisite: PT 136.
Requested implementation term: 200401.
RECOMMENDED.
Discussion: Committee was concerned that the program prerequisites are not seen in the entry-level course, PT 136. It was recommended by the committee that completion of WR 115 and MTH 20, or equivalent placement test scores, be added to PT 136 to reflect the program prerequisites. It is a committee concern that there are several professional technical programs that do not require program prerequisites in their entry-level courses.
13. GEO 266 ANALYSIS WITH GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION SYSTEMS – NEW COURSE
2 lec, 3 lab, 3 cr
In depth examination of GIS approaches to spatial analysis problems. Exposure to data models to support raster, surface, and/or network analyses. Introduction to application development tools and macro languages. Laboratory component features hands-on learning with professional grade GIS software.

14. GEO 267 APPLICATION TOPICS IN GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION SYSTEMS – NEW COURSE

Content focus varies by term and provides an opportunity for extended exposure to one or more of the analytical techniques first learned in prerequisite courses. Attention to institutional and professional GIS application issues and programming environments. Prerequisites: GEO 265, GEO 266, or equivalents.

The Committee recommended that Form M and the appropriate worksheets be completed and presented to the Committee for Gen Ed and the AAOT B list.
15. HE 242 STRESS AND HUMAN HEALTH – NEW COURSE
3 lec, 3 cr
Surveys and critically analyzes the stress concept and its impact on individual health. Using a multi-dimensional model, students will explore their personal stressors and the interaction between stress, human health and disease.

RECOMMENDED with addition of prerequisite to read: placement into WR 121, or instructor permission.
COMMITTEE DISCUSSION:
Welcoming comments by Kendra Cawley the new Curriculum/GenEd Committee Chair included introducing Marlene Eid, psychology faculty, Rock Creek campus, as a new member of the committee and recapping her report to the SACs during Fall Inservice.
Highlights of that report:
Informed SACs about the new curriculum processing forms and that they can be found on the web
Discussed the role of the Curriculum Committee as a more mentoring group, seeing curriculum requests sooner in the processing to assist the originator with any problems or difficulties
The need for CCOGs to be attached to all New Course requests presented to the curriculum committee
To watch, at the SAC level, for cross-over or overlap with other courses already in place in the system when presenting a new course
The role of the Degrees and Certificates Committee and which curriculum requests should go to that committee. She indicated that, for clarification, the forms needing to be reviewed by the Degrees and Certificates Committee was indicated on the form itself. The Curriculum/GenEd Committee and the Degrees and Certificates Committee purposefully meet on the same days and campus to enable faculty with issues, for both arenas, to present on the same day.
Kendra also reported to the committee issues that could impact the Curriculum/GenEd Committee in the future such as:
- the review by the EAC of all sub committee bylaws
- AAOT sequence requirements
- General Education in professional/technical degrees/certificates embedding
- OUS transfer courses changing, globally, from 3 to 4 credits
Guy Sievert informed the Committee that the EAC Policy committee will be looking at a college-wide policy for program/course prerequisites. The EAC will also be addressing the issue of professional/technical departments failing to list program prerequisites in entry-level courses or enforcing what is listed in the college catalog program verbiage.
