173. SOC 281 EXPLORE CAREERS IN GERONTOLOGY NEW COURSE
1 lec, 1 cr
Includes 3-hour workshop and 27 hours fieldwork exploring the job market and career paths in gerontology. Students will assess their interests, skills, and training needs, and receive job search counseling and direction. Fieldwork includes shadow mentorships, informational interviews, market research, portfolio development and other career enhancing activities.

Committee recommended postponement of this course until the April meeting and further discussion on how this course should be offered. The Committee also needs time to discuss this type format for courses and recommended the Sociology SAC discuss the format presentation of this course with regard to lecture, lecture/lab, and lab formats.

174. SOC 282 BUILD A CAREER IN GERONTOLOGY NEW COURSE

Students will develop job and skill development priorities, and build a career path through job search and readiness tasks, market research, work portfolio and resume development, job interviews, career coaching, and other career development activities.

Demonstrate readiness for welding employment through the development and performance of a comprehensive hands-on welding related Service Learning Project, and the successful completion of an industry-based written assessment. Prerequisite: Completion of One-year Certificate of Completion in Welding Technology.

A variable topics course offering special classes and workshops in art and art history. Affords novel opportunity to explore out-of-the-ordinary skills, themes, and subjects, including art travel.

228. GEO 204 GEOGRAPHY OF MIDDLE EAST NEW COURSE, REQUEST FOR GENERAL EDUCATION, CULTURAL DIVERSITY AND AAOT B LIST DESIGNATIONS

Examines the impacts of different physical and cultural factors in formation, development, and distribution patterns of human settlements, and studies the influence of religious beliefs as well as other cultural elements in the evolution of human landscapes and the quality of life within the region. Students study the Middle East as a culturally diverse region (i.e. not a monolith) and learn about the dominant value systems held by different Middle Eastern societies. Among issues discussed in class are population issues, urbanization processes, traditionalism, modernity, male-female relations, feminism, democracy, and westernization.

Examines the issues of race and ethnicity and their interrelationships with contemporary global patterns of political factionalism, economic disparity, religious fervor, and ethnic nationalism. Students will learn how these issues influence the processes of development for various countries (developed and developing) throughout the world.

232. EDO 115 EMERGENCY TELECOMMUNICATOR-CAPSTONE NEW COURSE
6 lec/lab, 3 cr
Provides the opportunity to demonstrate and document a variety of activities completed during the two-term program. Skills learned and the practical application of various lab techniques will be presented in a portfolio that may be used by prospective employers to determine job readiness. Pre-employment testing and screening will be covered, as well as, a variety of community based activities. Students will obtain various state level certifications in emergency services related competencies, such as, law enforcement computer access, and emergency medical dispatch protocols.

DISCUSSION:
- Issues concerning course overlap were discussed, including suggestions of how such issues might be better anticipated and addressed.
- Revisions to the by-laws for the Curriculum Committee were discussed, with specific attention to membership. Information about the kinds of questions and concerns the committee considers should be an appendix to the by-laws, reviewed more frequently.
