Chair Susanne Christopher called the meeting to order at 3:05 pm.
Davonna Livingston introduced herself. She is working in the Curriculum Office, and is additional support for the committees.
Susanne announced that Mark Hagen has resigned from the committee. She introduced Jeannine Hull, Fitness Technology at Sylvania, as a possible new member.
There was a correction in the December minutes – page 4. Replace GER with GRN. Linda Gettman moved and Dave Stout seconded that the minutes were approved as corrected. Motion carried.
Jennifer Bowers was not present at the January meeting. Dave Stout moved and Jennifer Bowers seconded that the minutes be approved as corrected. Motion carried.
Program Award
- It was decided to name this award a Focus Award.
- Veronica reminded the committee that these awards cannot be tracked in Banner. Dave will continue this conversation later.
- Focus Awards will be included in the catalog.
Dave Stout moved and Linda Gettman seconded the motion to recommend approval of these awards to the EAC.
Course/Degree Linkage
Susanne presented the work she and the Curriculum Committee Chair, Kendra Cawley, have done to merge the AAOT, GenED lists into one. The committee agreed and it will move to the EAC.
Date Stout suggested that the course inactivation time frame be changed from 3 to 4 years. Current practice is 3 years, the committee agreed to leave it at 3 years.
New Certificate HVAC – Trades and Industry SAC, Cascade
Moving from an EST to a Certificate of Completion. Listed in catalog under Facilities Maintenance.
Eriks Puris moved and Jennifer Bowers seconded the motion to recommend the change from an EST to a Certificate of Completion. Motion carried.
Building Construction Technology
Revised AAS BCT Management Degree
With the addition of WR 121 in the program, raising the total credits to 96, Dave Stout recommended and Linda Gettman seconded the motion to drop the BCT 2-year certificate and approve the revisions of the AAS BCT Management degree.
Revised BCT 1-year Certificate of Completion (37 credits)
Linda Gettman moved and Eriks Puris seconded the motion to recommend revisions in this certificate. Motion carried.
Revised AAS BCT degree
Dave Stout moved and Loretta Goldy seconded the motion to recommend elimination of the 2-year certificate and to recommend revision of the AAS degree. Motion carried.
Revised AAS Design/Build/Remodel degree
With a pre-requisite of WR 115 being changed to WR 121, Linda Gettman moved and Eriks seconded the recommendation to eliminate the 2-year certificate and recommended revision of the AAS Design/Build degree. Motion carried.
Revised AAS Criminal Justice
Recommended revision of course change in the AAS Criminal Justice degree. Eliminating WR 228 and adding CJA 230 contingent on approval by Curriculum Committee. Dave Stout moved and Tony Zable seconded the motion to recommend approval. Motion carried.
Revised Building Inspection Technology
AAS Degree course revisions were discussed. In addition, to the SAC request, the following changes were agreed to by the SAC, Division Dean, and committee members:
- The general education requirements be displayed in a manner more easy for students to understand.
- Remove the statement about “C” or better from general education courses
- Add a statement that “Program courses must be passed with a “C” or better”
Jennifer Bowman moved and Eriks second the motion to recommend the changes to the Building Inspection degree contingent upon the Curriculum Committee approval of INSP 201 and INSP 251. The motion carried.
Gerontology
New Activity Assistant Certificate of Completion – 22 credits
It was suggested that the second outcome be reviewed and strengthened. Jan Abushakrah agreed to suggestion. Tony Zable moved and Loretta Goldy seconded the motion to recommend. Motion carried.
New Activity Director Certificate of Completion – 34 credits
It was suggested that the second outcome be reviewed and strengthened. Jan Abushakrah agreed to the suggestion. Dave Stout moved and Tony Zable seconded the motion to recommend. Motion carried.
New Activity Consultant Certificate of Completion – 20 credits
This assumes a prior 4-year degree. Dave Stout moved and Tony Zable seconded the motion to recommend. Motion carried.
Revision Gerontology 1-year Certificate and AAS degree
Loretta Goldy moved and Jennifer Bowers seconded recommending this certificate and degree with the standard General Education statement be included. The motion carried.
Health Studies
Monica Hunsberger presented the Health Studies Focus Award. Health Faculty have been working with PSU on this Award. Committee members reviewed the document and made some suggested language changes for clarification: clearly state that Health Core is required; electives include 1 or more classes. Also spell out more clearly the information about the upper division classes. The committee agreed with this award and commended Faculty on their work
AGS Degree
The Associate of General Studies Degree has confusing language regarding WR 121 requirement. Currently it states:
Writing Competency in writing must be demonstrated by either:
- Completing WR 121 with a grade of C or better, or
- Passing a lower division collegiate* writing course for which WR 121 is a prerequisite with a letter grade of C or better or
- Passing the PCC WR 121 challenge Exam. Students must meet criteria to sit for the exam
In addition, the AGS degree has a stand alone statement: Students must complete WR 121 with a grade of “C” or better.
D/C recommends removal of the stand alone statement and maintaining the Writing Competency requirement.
