Overview of October Minutes:
The October minutes will be approved at the January meeting.
New Business:
Phil Christain was introduced as the newest member to the Degrees and Certificates committee. He is a transcript evaluator in Student Records at Rock Creek.
Loretta Goldy is serving as Chair for Susanne Christopher’s absence.
2:15 Revision: Computer Information Systems-E-Commerce-Maureen Wright
The CIS department is requesting a change from the acceptance of any passing grade on any class that applies to the certificate, to specify that students must earn a grade “C” or better on all CIS and CS classes applied to the certificate.
Dave Stout made a motion to approve the revised requirement to the one-year certificate in E-Commerce with a second by Eriks Puris. The motion passed to recommend the revision of the certificate to the EAC for approval.
2:30 Revision: One year Certificate: Computer Information Systems-Maureen Wright
The CIS department is requesting a change from the acceptance of any passing grade on any class that applies to the certificate, to specify that students must earn a grade “C” or better on all CIS and CS classes applied to the certificate.
Dave Stout made a motion to approve the revised requirement to the one-year certificate in Computer Information Systems with a second by Eriks Puris. The motion passed to recommend the revision of the certificate to the EAC for approval.
2:45 Revision: Computer Information Systems-AAS Network Administration -Maureen Wright
The CIS department is requesting a change from the acceptance of any passing grade on any class that applies to the degree, to specify that students must earn a grade “C” or better on all CIS and CS classes applied to the degree.
Dave Stout made a motion to approve the revised requirement to the AAS degree in Network Administration with a second by Eriks Puris. The motion passed to recommend the revision of the degree to the EAC for approval.
3:00 Revision: AAS Computer Information Systems-Maureen Wright

3:15 Revision: AAS in Criminal Justice Revision-Jim Parks
The CJA department is requesting to remove HPE 295 as a requirement for the AAS degree. The reason for the revision is because not all students who study criminal justice are targeting police work as a profession. Students who do, receive rigorous training in health and physical education at the police academy. Students are advised of the physical requirements for various positions in the criminal justice field through CJA 100, which is a required course. Additionally, Oregon has a new physical agility test which might be used as a segment of the degree program. Dave Stout asked if we could be sending students the wrong message regarding the importance of fitness. Jim stated that students receive more than adequate information regarding the topic. Loretta asked if Jim intended to change the outcomes for the degree. Since he did not, it appears that the boxes are checked off incorrectly.
Dave Stout made a motion to approve the removal of the HPE 295 requirement to the AAS degree in Criminal Justice, decreasing the degree by 3 credits. Eriks Puris seconded the motion. The motion passed to recommend the revision of the degree to the EAC for approval.
3:30 Revision: AAS in Fire Protection Technology-Dan Myers
The revision request is to update the existing program to align with the current standards for the NFPA (National Association of Fire Protection) and FESHE, the national curriculum requirements for fire protection. It is requested that four courses be approved and added to the degree, while other courses have been revised to align with the standards, raising the number of credits for those courses.
Dave Stout made a motion to approve the change in the course requirements to the AAS degree in Fire Protection Technology with a second by Janeen Hull. motion. The motion passed to recommend the revision of the degree to the EAC for approval.
3:45 Revision and certificate title change: Building Inspection Technology – One year Certificate Building Inspection Technology-Structural Inspection-Deb Anderson
The reason for the revision is to accurately reflect the focus of the certificate, align with the educational requirements for employment and to respond to State changes in certification and on-the-job experience requirements for employment. The State of Oregon has changed the requirements for certification and employment. Students are able to get out into the workforce more quickly with the changes, largely coming about due to workforce demand in the State of Oregon and the trend to separate, or classify various job-related duties differently. Dave Stout asked about the accuracy of the number of credits reflected in paperwork that was submitted. It appears that this is a mathematical error. The correct number of credits is 58, not 54. The proposed number or credits is 44. Phil Christain asked whether or not students need to know how to read blueprints before entering the program. Deb said it is encouraged, but not necessary.
Dave Stout made a motion to approve the change in the course requirements to the certificate Building Inspection Technology: Structural Inspection, now to be called “Structural and Mechanical Inspection.” The motion was seconded by Eriks Puris. motion. The motion passed to recommend the revision of the certificate to the EAC for approval.
