2022 Photo Contest
Self Discovery
- 2022 Winner: “Center of Queensland” by Patricia Bill. Description: “The photo is taken in a .5 lens on my iphone, at a viewpoint that we arrived at after our tour to the tablelands. The picture does not do this view justice. But in the photo you see me surrounded by my peers who are also intrigued with the view and just need to capture it. I, on the other hand, captured my surroundings. So the view, myself, and the chaos that surrounds me as well. The photo reminds me of the realness that came with the whole trip. That it wasn’t just a bunch of pretty scenery, but it was the study of ecology. That I wasn’t alone in this journey, but that we were all there ready to explore and learn so much of this new place across the world. This was also a great tour, where our tour guide Paul shared great life advice and knowledge on the tablelands. This picture may not scream all that, but just one glimpse of it and it brings me back.” Program: Ecology in Australia
- 2022 Runner up: “Inner Peace” by Pascua Pezani. Description: “We stayed in Cuajiniquil for six nights and walked to the beach every night for sunset. I let go of several negative thoughts about myself on this trip. When I think back to this beach I can still feel the same sense of peace I felt as I watched the sun go down.” Program: Biology and Environmental Science in Costa Rica
- 2022 Runner up: “Julian Alps” by Debora Lev. Description: “This picture was taken in Slovenia on my way home after the three week digital photography class in Prague. It represents much of what made the study abroad experience so valuable: my growth as a photographer, confidence in a new way to travel and learn, and appreciation anew for the complexity of the world. Traveling with my husband after the class, I was reminded of how much we enjoyed the opportunity to live and learn together with the diverse PCC group.” Program: Digital Photography in Prague
Embracing New Cultures
- 2022 Winner: “Orange Rooves” by Lee Holoubek. Description: From the airplane to walking the streets, what always stood out to me was Prague’s orange-roofed buildings. To embrace a new culture is to grow accustomed to its landscape; As my peers and I lived abroad these rooves found their way into my photography and after leaving, spark an immediate nostalgia. Program: Digital Photography in Prague
- 2022 Runner up: “Through the Groves” by Ivory Bradshaw. Description: “Through the Groves”: In this photo we went on a group kayaking trip through the Musgroves in La Cruz, Costa Rica! This was my first time kayaking and it was so fun, my favorite part was when we took a moment of silence to hear the sounds of the wildlife and nature around us and it helped us really appreciate where we were.” Program: Biology and Environmental Science in Costa Rica
