Registration policies

Check class information carefully! Students are responsible for the accuracy of scheduling their classes. Scheduling mistakes are often costly, so double check classes before completing registration. Plan your schedule using a schedule worksheet [pdf]. If you’re considering dropping or withdrawing, see how to drop a class.

Index

Attendance

You’re expected to attend all classes in which you’re enrolled. If you don’t attend or stop attending and fail to drop a class before the drop deadline, you will be responsible for all tuition and fees. Unless you’ve made arrangements with your instructor, you could be removed from the class if you don’t attend the first day, although instructors aren’t required to do so. Excessive absences can lead to lowered or failing grades.

You can only attend classes that you’re officially registered for. Students cannot sit-in on classes they’re not registered for.

See more about attendance.

Audits

Auditing is considered on a case-by-case basis and requires instructor permission. The cost of auditing is full tuition and fees. See more about auditing a class.

Cancelled classes

Classes offered in the schedule reflect the intentions when the schedule was planned. However, offerings can change due to factors like insufficient enrollment, personnel availability and budget requirements. We regret any inconvenience this might cause, and will do our best to help you adjust your schedule.

Confirmations

PCC does not mail paper registration confirmations. Students are expected to access their schedules in MyPCC. If you need a paper copy of your class schedule, we can mail it to you on request at Enrollment Services or by calling the Registration Helpline at 971-722-8888, option 2.

Credit max

Students in good standing can register for a maximum of 19 credits per term. To take more than 19 credits, you must get permission from an advisor, counselor, or department chair. They will take into consideration academic history, current GPA, work-home-school balance, and the difficulty level of your courses.

Eligibility for federal financial aid programs

To be eligible for federal financial aid, a student must have a high school diploma or its recognized equivalent, or meet the criteria for homeschooled students under the law in their home state. Students who are dually enrolled in high school and college are not eligible for federal financial aid. The following may qualify as a diploma equivalent:

  • GED® Certificate
  • Certificate from certain participating states (e.g., California CHSPE, New York TASC)
  • Transcript showing completion of equivalent to an AS or AA college degree or higher

Certain exceptions exist for students who attended an eligible college program before July 1, 2012. If you believe this applies to you, contact Financial Aid.

GED® is a registered trademark of the American Council on Education and may not be used without permission. The GED® and GED Testing Service® brands are administered by GED Testing Service LLC under license.

Late registration (registering after the first class)

All courses have a registration deadline. For full-term, 8-12 week courses, the late registration deadline is the second Tuesday of the term. See more about registering after a class has started. You’ll need to request a registration override from your instructor and register online in MyPCC by the deadline.

Non-credit registration

The registration process for non-credit classes depends on which type of class you’re taking.

If you’re having trouble registering, contact Enrollment Services.

Prerequisites

Many credit classes have prerequisites, which are conditions that must be met to gain access to a particular class. These conditions are usually completion of (or enrollment in) other courses, placement test scores, or departmental approval.

If a course has a prerequisite, it will be listed with the course description. If you believe that you meet the prerequisites and the system won’t let you register, contact your advisor. If you don’t meet the prerequisites but want to be considered, contact the department offering the class.

Time conflicts

Students cannot enroll in credit classes with overlapping meeting times. State reporting standards do not allow us to report any student who is registered in classes that overlap as it is viewed as fraudulent by the state.
