Applicants under the age of 18

Don’t follow these steps if…

If you are under 18 and will not have a high school diploma or GED® when starting classes at PCC, there are some extra steps you need to take before you can register for classes.

Things to know before applying:

  • College is an adult learning environment and may not be appropriate for younger students.
  • Classes go on your permanent transcript. Taking college classes before you’re ready can lower your GPA and impact eligibility for financial aid and transfer options.

How to apply

  1. Apply to PCC

    Complete the admissions application by the admissions deadline. Applying is free and only takes a few minutes.

  2. Complete the orientation

    Learn the basics about PCC in the New Student Orientation. The orientation takes about 30 minutes.

  3. Set up your MyPCC account

    MyPCC is where you’ll go to sign up for classes, check your student email, pay for classes, and more. Use the first-time user link on the MyPCC login page to get an account setup code and create your password.

  4. Complete placement

    Submit the following information to demonstrate prerequisites have been met in reading, writing, and math.

    Age 14-15: placement tests

    Students 14-15 years old must meet standard prerequisites to take credit classes at PCC.

    Reading and writing: contact a testing center and request placement for a student under 16.

    Math: in MyPCC, click ALEKS math skills under Quick Links. Give yourself around 90 minutes, and do not use calculators or outside help.

    Age 16-17: submit grades

    In MyPCC, click Submit high school grades under Quick Links. Click Ready to be placed to submit your grades. After submitting grades, other assessments may be needed to provide placement.

  5. Submit permission forms

    Students under the age of 18 will have a hold on their account and won’t be able to register until permission forms are submitted.

    Age 14-15: school and parent permission

    School permission: have a counselor, administrator, or school district employee complete the permission form. Summer term: to receive a temporary override for summer classes, contact Enrollment Services.

    Parent permission: sign and download the parent agreement form. Email the form and a copy (front and back) of your parent or guardian’s valid, government-issued ID to enroll@pcc.edu.

    Age 16-17: school permission

    School permission: have a counselor, administrator, or school district employee complete the permission form. Summer term: to receive a temporary override for summer classes, contact Enrollment Services.

  6. Register for classes

    Register in MyPCC when your registration time opens. See how to register. Registration restrictions:

    • Students under 18 can’t register for pre-college level courses.
    • Students under 18 can’t use the audit grade option.
    • Registration to some classes is blocked due to safety or content.
  7. Make payment arrangements

    Your bill must be paid or a payment plan in place two weeks before the term starts. See more: paying for college.
