Honoring President Mark Mitsui
Portland Community College’s Mark Mitsui began his tenure as president in September 2016. Though he will retire in June at the conclusion of the 2021-22 academic year, his leadership and impact will continue.
President Mitsui has been steadfast in his commitment to equitable student success. While at PCC, he’s continued to advocate for those in our community who’ve been marginalized or historically excluded from higher education.
From overseeing the first center opening in Oregon to specifically supporting undocumented students, to helping get benefit navigators at each public college and university and to championing the role of a community college in building a strong regional workforce, President Mitsui’s leadership will have reverberations throughout the region for decades to come.
To help honor President Mitsui’s legacy, the President Mark Mitsui Opportunity Scholarship is being created to our students’ most pressing needs. This fund will provide scholarships to students who’ve completed either the On-Ramp to IT, On-Ramp to Manufacturing, On-Ramp to Construction and Trades or On-Ramp to Healthcare at one of PCC’s Opportunity Centers and plan to continue their studies pursuing a certificate or degree.
