Planned giving donor highlight: Michael Gentry
“It’s easy to support something you believe in – and I believe in PCC.”
Michael Gentry, retired attorney and member of the PCC Foundation Board, has long been an advocate for our students and a proud supporter of scholarships. On his 70th birthday, he realized that making his contributions to the PCC Foundation through his IRA Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) was an easy and tax-wise way to continue his support.
“My intention was always to continue my annual gifts to the PCC Foundation, and when it came time to receive my RMD, it made sense to have contributions come directly from my IRA account,” said Mike. “This way, the funds are distributed directly to the Foundation, reducing my taxable income. The fact that it goes right to helping students made it an easy choice. All it took was a phone call to my advisor.”
If you are 70 ½ or older, you can direct your IRA administrator to distribute a gift directly to the PCC Foundation. Any amount you transfer counts against your RMD, and you will pay no income taxes on the amount transferred.
