Ann Prater | “Creature Comforts”

This Creature attempts to capture joy amidst chaos. Inspired by the posture and personality of our beloved “pandemic puppy,” this oversized cookie jar was built by coiling and sculpting 25 pounds of clay. With campus closed, I traveled twice to Portland to bisque fire and then glaze her, plus a final trip to bring my Creature home, where she was one of the first pieces to be glaze-fired in my new kiln. Creature Comforts celebrates the challenge of learning new modalities and the joy that can inexplicably arise when unimaginable circumstances force independence and untethering from our privileged comforts.
