Lupe Mendoza | “Huitzilopochtli “
This media file is attached to: Drawing
This art work was created purely with pencil to outline and colored pencils. This piece of art represents what we call in the indigenous community of Mexico the Huitzilopochtli which translates to the sun god or the sun warrior. The dialect is called Nahuatl and we speak it in different tones. This is something I wanted to show as a part of me and as apart of who I am which is a bright person and a warrior. As I was using all of these bright colors lie yellow and the sky blue I could feel the warrior inside of me. As well as when I was drawing the deep lines to separate the sun rays of different colors to make it stand out more I was focusing on the deep lines and seeing them almost as wounds or as cuts on the warriors skins from fighting so much and protecting his land against the Spanish colonizers. When drawing the sun I was thinking abut making it yellow but instead I made a red because of the blood shed left behind when protecting his tribe.
