Giana Lawson | Flowers of December”

For this project we had been assigned to paint using large tools/brushes only. Admittedly, this was a bit outside my comfort zone but I ended up having a lot of fun with it. I started by using large brushes for coverage and a dull butcher's knife for the grid effect on the background. I used a palette knife for the roses, leaves, and edges and highlight, and large brushes for covering the vase and foreground. As the roses I was using for reference were dead, I wanted to revive and immortalize them into a playful, lively celebration of life, love, light, color, and shadow.
