Nicole Reich | “They Tasted Good Too”

The project was to create a still life painting using watercolors. My focus was on creating a simple composition with organic shapes using highly saturated, cheerful colors that would pop from across the room. But, in most of my works, I like to create some sort of contrast. So, to contrast the sunny, vibrant crispness of the apples, I opted to create a stormy color palette for the cloth that they rested upon. I chose a bruised and almost beyond ripened pear as an underlying reminder of this inevitable and unescapable cycle of life we are all living and how delicate it can be.
