Carrie Gilbert | “Reclaimed”

I have always been intrigued by the idea of nature reclaiming neglected human-made artifacts. The concept seemed to lend itself well to a subtractive monotype printmaking process, since I could use "ghost" impressions to suggest the passage of time and the fading away of the original structure. I then used stencils to add in the vines that are consuming the structure. This image was based on a photo I took at the now-defunct Blue Heron paper mill in Oregon City.
