For this painting in particular I explored texture and color vibration. I also had to choose a color that will help the flowers shine.

There is a kitchen sink filled with dishes. The dishes and counter reflect the bright natural light. The shadows are pure black while the light is shades of white, gray, and yellow.

This image is of a small dog, and a distant background. Having the dog take most of the canvas space, declares he is in charge of the house.
