For this assignment, we were to make a painting of a person in a doorway or in front of a window where the light is behind and the figure is in shadow. I made this painting of myself and my dog looking out our sliding glass door to the deck in winter. I wanted to show the connection between inside/outside, light/dark, warm/cool, and the connection between my dog and me.

There is a view across the street of a corner and a bit of a crosswalk with the sidewalk hidden by a thick mass of blue iris and yellow-orange poppies; above them the plum trees have already dropped their blossoms and have green-bronze leaves moving in the breeze.
