Jae Rivera | “Retrato de Ignacio López Tarso”
This media file is attached to: Painting / Watercolor
This painting is a class project where I explored the process of scumbling and glazing white paint onto black canvas. After studying the processes with which many Renaissance painters created their underpaintings, I attempted a similar process in white paint. Never having worked on a non-white canvas before, I undertook the challenge of painting a portrait of the Mexican actor Ignacio López Tarso. As a Mexican Icon of the Golden Age of Mexican Cinema, I grew up watching him in movies such as El Hombre de Papel (Ismael Rodríguez, 1963), and Cri-Cri el grillito cantor (Tito Davison, 1963).
