In this piece, I used gouache paint. I mixed primaries to find the values within violet to create a monochromatic painting. I have seen and always been fascinated by Onis in Japanese culture and was my first choice for this mono, mythical painting. There is a story line that I’ve heard involving a red and blue Oni in a game and that is where my choice of color also came from. I focused primarily on creating depth within a single range of color.
