Summer Andreasen | “Hyacinthus orientalis”
This media file is attached to: Ceramics / Sculpture / 3D Design
This sculpture was made by creating a mold of a living Hyacinth bulb. Wax was used in the mold to create the flower and bulb. I used the plant's leaves and cotton string as roots, both coated in wax and attached to the wax hyacinth in the final stage. The organic material (leaves and string) burnt out in the firing. Bronze was poured into the final cast of plaster. I welded the bronze roots onto the sculpture at the end. My goal was to create a Hyacinth that never dies, a reminder of coming Springs and renewal. I choose bronze, as with time the metal will change colors from oxidation.
