Summer Andreasen | “You can’t make an omelette without breaking a few eggs”
This media file is attached to: Ceramics / Sculpture / 3D Design
This sculpture was made by creating a mold of an egg. Wax was used in the mold to create five eggs. I used the cardboard egg carton, coated in wax as an organic material that burnt out in the firing. Some broken egg shell pieces were left in the carton. The wax eggs were placed in the cardboard carton. Aluminum was poured into the final cast of plaster. The sculpture has the visual effect of a weathered, broken egg carton and eggs, with only five eggs. My desired meaning of this sculpture was to give a tangible, visual experience of needing to bear hardships to gain something desirable. The eggs and their carton have the appearance of that hardship.
