Taking inspiration from historical Chinese forms, I wanted to explore a contemporary take on ancient Neolithic pots. Though the form itself is a nod to silhouettes common in the Chinese Neolithic period, the carving and underglaze borrow from modern pop culture. The images relate to the ideas of identity: we inherit shapes from our ancestors, but we express from our present culture contexts. This pot is ultimately a vessel for flowers, to hold space for our selves and for others.
