Laurie Hale | “Contemporary Jomon”
This media file is attached to: Ceramics / Sculpture / 3D Design
This Jomon Period inspired pot was hand built using the coiling technique. After the vessel was built, the decorations and handles were added using a combination of attaching coils of clay and pressing various objects, such as rope, sticks, and bamboo, into the clay to create patterns. After bisque firing, it was stained with a blue stain before glazing. Its silhouette and half of the patterns of the pottery are inspired by an ancient Jomon vessel. While the other half of the patterns and the color of glaze are a contemporary element.
