This drawing was inspired by the prompt of "quilts." After doing some research on the multicultural significance of quilts and quilting, I realized that what all quilting traditions had in common was a sense of honoring/remembering something/someone significant, in order to preserve a memory. This is a portrait of my grandfather whom died when I was very young, but is still a very prominent figure in my family history. This drawing represents the dichotomy of the fragmented memories that I have of him, next to the idea of him that exists within stories that I have been told. They are not necessarily contrasting, but somehow separate.
