This cup was made with a combination of wheel throwing and hand building. The application of nonfunctional sculptural qualities (the thorns) to an otherwise functional piece (a cup) was used to obscure the relationship between an object and its intended function. By disrupting this narrative of assumed ownership, I intended to place autonomy back onto what is assumed to be non-autonomous.
