This vase was made with a combination of wheel throwing and hand building in exploration of the relationship between the sculptural qualities of the thorns and butterflies with conventional functionality of a vase. The combination of these approaches was used to place autonomy onto an assumedly non-autonomous piece, while still allowing for functionality, by creating a visual dialogue between the object and its user.
